Is Shifting Away from Fee-For-Service Reimbursement the Best Course?

Most physicians don't support efforts to move away from traditional fee-for-service reimbursement to value-based payment models.

That's according to recent survey findings that appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

More specifically, of 2,556 physicians surveyed:

• 70 percent said they were not in support of eliminating fee-for-service;
• 65 percent said they opposed bundled payments; and
• 59 percent said they opposed penalties to providers for avoidable hospital readmissions.

The survey findings cited here were highlighted in a recent MedPage Today article.

Do you agree with the survey respondents that moving away from traditional fee-for-service reimbursement is not the best approach? Why or why not? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
