Oct. 1, 2016. This date has likely been highlighted on many a calendar at physician practices around the country. That's because this date marks the end of the 1-year grace period from CMS for practices' use of these new diagnostic codes for Medicare fee-for-service claims. In other words, the flexibility on not having to be specific in ICD-10 coding will end on this day.
