What Physicians Should Know About the ICD-10 Delay

The Senate recently passed a bill, HR 4302, that included language to delay implementation of the ICD-10 coding system until at least October, 2015.

To learn more about how this delay will impact physician practices, Physicians Practice spoke with Robert Tennant, senior policy adviser of government affairs for the Medical Group Management Association.

"I think one of the things [the delay] does is sort of put a laser focus on the issue of whether or not ICD-10 is right for physicians' practices, and whether or not the glide path that had been developed by the administration was appropriate," said Tennant. "I think obviously when you look back at the various implementations that we've gone through over the past few years with HIPAA, ICD-10 was the only one where the physician community really pushed back hard on."
