Physicians Practice Acquired by United Business Media
Largest U.S. healthcare business media to complement CMPMedica's offerings
Baltimore, Maryland — May 02, 2007 — Healthcare media company Physicians Practice, LLC, has been acquired from parent company Med-IQ, LLC, by United Business Media, PLC, (UBM) a publicly traded global business information company based in London. Physicians Practice will be integrated into UBM's CMPMedica marketing services operations in the United States.
Based in Baltimore, Physicians Practice and its principal product, Physicians Practice®, America's Leading Practice Management Journal, is distributed to approximately 275,000 office-based physicians and their staff, with business, financial, and legal expertise to assist them in managing their practices more efficiently. The publication is supported by approximately 60 hospital sponsors, and was named 2006 Publication of the Year by the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE). Investment banking firm DeSilva + Phillips in New York, NY, advised on the sale of Physicians Practice.
While its ownership has changed, the mission and vision of Physicians Practice remains the same: to help physicians manage their practices more effectively so they can focus on improving the health of their patients.
Explaining the acquisition, Henry Elkington, chief executive officer of CMPMedica said: "Physicians Practice has established itself as the leading practice management brand for U.S. physicians. This acquisition will help us deepen our relationship with the primary care community by bringing products that complement our existing portfolio which includes Consultant magazine, www.consultantlive.com and www.searchmedica.com."
Ken Karpay will continue as publisher, along with the rest of the Physicians Practice management, sales, editorial, and operations team. "Working together with our clients, partners, and other constituents, we are excited about the future of Physicians Practice now as a part of CMPMedica and UBM," said Karpay.
