EMR Readiness: The R-Factor

GE Healthcare
February 03, 2010

As adoption of electronic medical records (EMRs) continues to grow, there still exists a gap in the ability of some providers and vendors to ensure successful implementation. The core factor in EMR delays and failures is a lack of readiness. This so-called “R-Factor,” or the readiness for success, refers to a business climate that promotes continuous improvement and relies on data to make decisions. In planning the implementation process, physician practices must ensure that all stakeholders are engaged, and that the change-management strategy is well communicated. This paper addresses how practices can assess their “R-Factor” and improve their readiness for EMR implementation.
