Question: We have a physician who would like to meet nonemergency patients at the hospital for visits between procedures so he doesn't have to return to the office. This wouldn't be in an emergency room or inpatient setting, but in an office setting at the hospital. How would we bill?
Answer: You can bill a regular E&M ("office or other outpatient"), but the patient also receives a facility bill. Thus, many practices will ask the patient if they indeed want to meet the physician at the hospital, while making the patient aware that it will cost a bit more.
