I have a question about estate claims for deceased patients. These claims can take months or years to settle. What do practices do with these balances while they are waiting for the estate?

Question: I have a question about estate claims for deceased patients. These claims can take months or years to settle. What do practices do with these balances while they are waiting for the estate?

Answer: Most practices collect what they can from the payer and write off the balance. It just makes it simpler because collection, as you say, is at best distant and probably unlikely.
