Penalties for non-PQRS compliance
Physicians who do not successfully participate in PQRS will be penalized 1.5 percent of Medicare payment; penalized 2 percent for non-participation in following years.
Effective Jan. 1, 2015

‘Meaningful use’ or bust
Payment adjustments through Medicare being for eligible professionals and hospitals who do not demonstrate “meaningful use” of EHR technology; Stage 3 criteria begin.
Effective January 2015

Value-based physician payments
Physician payments tied to “quality” they provide, so higher value of care brings higher payments.
