How Physicians Measure Professional Success

Article

Most physicians are their toughest critics. How do you keep things in perspective and measure your own professional success?

In a recent Practice Notes blog, family physician Jennifer Frank wrote about how important it is for physicians to determine their personal measures of professional success.

Defining how you measure success, she said, can ensure that you are focusing on the elements of your work and life that really matter to you.

There are other benefits that come from defining your measures of professional success. Since physicians are often their toughest critics, identifying your personal success measures can help you keep things in perspective and your expectations of yourself realistic.

Frank said one of her top measures of success is whether she enjoys working on a daily basis.

What are some of your personal measures of professional success? What measures would you recommend to other physicians?
