Boost medical practice performance with three proven metrics. Learn how to track, benchmark, and act on each KPI in this quick P2 Management Minute.
Hey there folks, my name is Keith Reynolds, I’m the editor of Physicians Practice and for today’s P2 Management Minute let’s size up staff productivity in just three data-driven steps.
Start with what patients feel. Use the CG CAHPS survey and track the ‘top-box, ’those ‘always’ answers, every quarter. Break results down by visit type or location, then share wins and gaps with the whole crew. It’s a quality score, a marketing tool, and, thanks to CMS, sometimes a paycheck factor.
Next, measure encounters, work RVUs, or panel size per full-time equivalent. Compare your numbers to MGMA or specialty benchmarks each month. A dip in visits, or a pileup of unworked RVUs, flags scheduling chokepoints or understaffed roles before your revenue feels the hit.
Finally, follow the money. Post last month’s net-collection rate, A/R days, and denial rate on a shared scorecard. Aim for 95-percent collections and 1.5-months A/R or better. Celebrate billers who slash denials and coach anyone whose follow-up drags. Pair these stats with phone-answer times and portal use for a complete picture.
Track these three metrics and you’ll turn raw data into real performance gains. For more bite-size practice tips, be sure to check out PhysiciansPractice.com. I’ll see you tomorrow on the P2 Management Minute!
