Neurosurgeon Ben Carson, director of the division of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, says there is "no question" that health IT is extremely useful in saving healthcare dollars and is a "major contributor" of change in the industry today. However, patient information needs to be handled responsibly by physicians and their practices.
Carson also discusses an idea he has to provide every newborn with a birth certificate, personalized health record, and health savings account at birth to truly make the most of technology.
Carson is a keynote speaker at this year's MGMA12 Conference in San Antonio. He is scheduled to headline a session entitled "Big Ideas Mean Taking Big Risks" on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
