Is single-payer the 'logical endpoint of healthcare reform?'

In the tug-of-war between care and profit, is single-payer the way to achieve balance?

Practice Notes blogger Daniel Essin recently wrote that when you boil things down in the healthcare industry today, you are essentially left with a choice between care and profit.
