Question: Are there CPT codes for acupuncture? Can I use E&M codes for the service?
Answer: There are two CPT codes for acupuncture: 97780 for acupuncture without electrical stimulation and 97781 for acupuncture with electrical stimulation.
It is not a good idea to use evaluation and management (E&M) codes for acupuncture unless the E&M-required components are met during the encounter: history, examination, and medical decision-making.
