How to run a morning huddle your staff won't skip: A 15-minute framework

Fact checked by: Keith A. Reynolds

A family physician and practice owner shares the structure, roles and timing that make her team's 15-minute morning huddle work, and how to adapt it to a practice of any size.

Practice managers know the pattern: A patient is already in the exam room when someone realizes a lab wasn't ordered, a balance wasn't collected or a screening was missed.

Then the questions start, the schedule slides and the workday slips away — or gets even busier and longer.

Brittney Anderson, M.D., FAAFP, owner of Anderson Family Care and CEO of Physicians Hanging a Shingle, which coaches physicians starting independent practices, says a well-run morning huddle moves those conversations to the start of the day. At the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) 2026 Annual Conference, she laid out the framework used by her eight-person team. "Your practice may be different," she said, so here's how to adapt it.
