Must-dos before you upgrade your tech
Avoid budget blowups and security gaps in this quick P2 Management Minute.
Hey there folks, my name is Keith Reynolds, I’m the editor of Physicians Practice and this is the P2 Management Minute. Here are two must-dos before you
1) Build a total-cost & ROI model, and stress-test it
Look past the sticker price. Add implementation, training hours, integration work, data migration, temporary downtime, and future subscription tiers/add-ons. Include annual support fees, too. Estimate payback in months, not years, and run scenarios: +/−10% visit volume, +/−3% reimbursement, go-live delays. If the project still clears your cash-flow bar under a ‘downside’ case, you’re ready to brief partners—and your banker.
2) Bake in security & compliance from day one
Mobile and BYOD widen your attack surface. Require: MFA/SSO, device management enrollment, encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access with least privilege, audit logs, regular patching, and tested backups. Confirm the vendor will sign a BAA and can provide recent security attestations and uptime SLAs. Map the tool to your written device policy and incident-response plan before go-live.
Total cost proven, security locked—then upgrade. For more bite-size practice tips and tricks make sure you visit
