Boost medical practice efficiency and reduce turnover with two staff-training essentials in this quick P2 Management Minute.

Hey there folks, my name is Keith Reynolds, I’m the editor of Physicians Practice and this is the P2 Management Minute. Here are two training moves to boost efficiency and cut turnover.

1) Write an onboarding playbook before day one

Give every new hire a consistent starting line. Include policies, workflows, and first-month performance goals; a glossary of acronyms (HIPAA, HCC, MACRA); a facility map; and phone-etiquette scripts. Use checklists so supervisors can initial each verified skill—great for tracking progress and satisfying compliance audits.

2) Pair each newcomer with a seasoned mentor

Shadowing accelerates learning and creates a safe zone for questions. Mentors model the soft skills that matter—de-escalating frustrated callers, juggling portal messages, coordinating handoffs—and build belonging, a proven buffer against first-year turnover.

Playbook plus mentorship: faster ramp-ups, fewer exits. For more bite-size practice tips and tricks make sure you visit PhysiciansPractice.com.
