Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price, MD resigned from his post last week following reports of racking up in excess of $1,000,000 in travel expenses for chartered flights according to POLITICO.
The former Georgia Congressmen used the charter flights to make announcements regarding the opioid epidemic and speak at various health-related conferences around the country. According to POLITICO reports, Price took at least 24 chartered flights, all of which were payed for by taxpayers when he could have flown commercial.
Shortly after the Price's resignation, President Donald Trump named Don J. Wright, a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Health, to serve as Acting HHS Secretary until they find a permanent replacement for Price. Seema Verma, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Doug Gottlieb, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, have been mentioned as possible replacements.
The resignation of Price naturally sparked some interesting reactions on Twitter immediately after the White House announced it. Here are a few we've collected.
