Exam Sinks

Article

Are we required to have a sink in every exam room?

Question: Are we required to have a sink in every exam room?

Answer: Medical practices are not required by any federal rule to have sinks in every exam room. However, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) does require them, so medical practices accredited by JCAHO must have them. Most practices have them regardless of regulation issues. It's usually more practical to have them because they save your physicians steps.

Of course, make sure you are aware of any relevant local or state laws. Your architect or landlord should be able to assist you in finding this information.
