Reduce malpractice risk with these three tips in the P2 Management Minute.

Hey there folks, my name is Keith Reynolds, I’m the editor of Physicians Practice and for today’s P2 Management Minute we’re looking at ways to reduce your malpractice risk:

First, cultivate strong physician-patient bonds. Patients who feel heard, respected, and informed are less likely to pursue legal action. Encourage clinicians to spend an extra moment listening, making eye contact, and summarizing each visit clearly.

Next, prioritize clear, thorough communication. Miscommunication often triggers malpractice claims. Provide patients with straightforward explanations and written visit summaries. And if an adverse event occurs, address it promptly and empathetically—patients appreciate honesty and transparency.

Finally, document everything in real time. Accurate, detailed records can make or break your malpractice defense. Train your staff to document thoroughly, avoid excessive reliance on EHR templates, and regularly review your practice's documentation standards.
