The government has shut down — Reactions from MGMA Leaders

In their Washington Update session on Monday, September 29, at the MGMA Leaders Conference 2025 in Orlando, MGMA's James Haynes and Madison Hynes underscored how tight congressional margins and political brinkmanship set up a funding crisis.

They noted that a House-passed continuing resolution through November 21 had stalled in the Senate, leaving the system vulnerable to a shutdown at 12:01 am on October 1.

That shutdown is now upon us, and their warnings now carry added weight.

Beyond the fate of extenders like telehealth flexibilities and the GPCI floor, the fight over ACA subsidies and Medicaid cuts has immediate consequences: furloughs at health agencies, halted clinical research and uncertainty for practices and patients alike.
