5 disruptions practice administrators should prepare for now

In an MGMA Summit digital conference session, a veteran administrator laid out the five trends set to reshape practice operations over the next five years.

The one constant in medical group management is transformation, and the administrators who thrive are the ones who get in front of it rather than reacting to it.

That was the argument Les Jebson, M.H.A., MBA, FACHE, FACMPE, a regional administrator at Prisma Health in South Carolina and a 20-year member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), made at the MGMA Summit Digital Conference on June 4, 2026, where he laid out the five trends he believes will most disrupt practice operations over the next five years. He pressed administrators to build forward-looking action plans for each.

His framing was practical throughout: technology, economics and patient consumerism are the forces driving disruption, and the administrator's job is to assess the practice's current state, prioritize the trends that matter most locally, pilot carefully, and scale what works.

Above are the five trends and the operational considerations he raised for each.
