Hey there folks, my name is Keith Reynolds, I’m the editor of Physicians Practice and for this P2 Management Minute let’s stamp out payer denials in three quick steps.

1. Appeal quickly, appeal smartly

Check each payer’s manual, then draft a tight letter with claim number, DOS, and proof—chart notes, test results, everything. Submit through the first appeal level, log every email, and follow up until you get a verdict.

2. Run a denial-management machine

Track every denial in your billing software: reason, appeal status, resolution date. Audit for coding errors, train front-desk and coders, keep a friendly line to payer reps, and use claim-scrubbing tools to catch mistakes before they go out.

3. Prevent the next one

Stay current on ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS updates. Verify insurance and referral needs at every visit. Standardize workflows, schedule self-audits, and keep staff education rolling so accuracy never slips.
