The revenue your practice is already losing, with MGMA Acting CEO Akash Madiah

Fact checked by: Keith A. Reynolds

MGMA Acting CEO Akash Madiah explains where practices leak revenue, why staff retention pays off and two habits administrators can start on Monday.

"Retention often provides a better return than recruitment," says Akash Madiah, acting CEO of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).

Physicians Practice Managing Editor Keith Reynolds sat down with Madiah following MGMA's 100th annual conference in San Antonio.

For administrators facing flat Medicare pay and rising costs, Madiah says to know the practice's numbers first: productivity, staffing ratios, payer performance and denial trends. He says practices should make sure they're collecting every dollar they've already earned before adding volume and should benchmark against peers rather than solve problems in isolation.

He also shares two things practice leaders can start on Monday: reviewing the one metric that matters most every week and scheduling a conversation with a peer outside the organization.
