Practice tip of the week: Five steps to start your own independent practice

Article

Your weekly dose of wisdom from the Physicians Practice experts.

With all the useful information available on Physicians Practice, it is easy to become overwhelmed.

With this in mind, the tip of the week is a chance to reflect on some of the wisdom found all across the site. In the November 2021 article “Five steps to start your own independent practice” Susanne Madden, MBA writes the following:

“Not only can independent practices survive, they can thrive. The key to launching a successful independent practice is proper planning. Knowing what steps to take and what mistakes to avoid is critical to ensuring a sustainable, profitable practice.

1). Establish your motivation and mission - Understand why you want to work as a solo provider. Is there a financial reason? A desire for better work-life balance?

2). Envision the future - Once your mission is clearly defined, set long-term goals for your practice.

3). Create your brand - The combination of your mission and your vision becomes your “brand” of medicine. The culture and environment that you are creating influences how you market to your targeted patient population.”
